Thankful

Is this finally our year? No guests, no invites, no one to please but ourselves. No turkey or stuffing. No cringy corn. None of Julie’s carrot stew I pretend to enjoy. No football on TV or bottles of zin to make me regret sobriety. No arguments about immigration while we eat.

A mid-day hike. A game of scrabble. Nestle under blankets with books, laptop close at hand when I want to write. Steaming ginger tea. Tommy dreaming against my leg. Dinner prep measured in minutes not hours. Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed sing comforting harmonies. We eat pie before bed.

  1. Thanks-giving, Christmas
    or both?
    Christmas here’ll be bring-a-plate(ful), I think.
Australia has no Thanksgiving. Perhaps that’s a pity and one of our ridiculous holidays could be repurposed. I know, let’s use Melbourne Cup day or Grand final parade public holiday

  2. I’d love to join you, but that would ruin everything you’ve got planned!

By the way, I heard Guinness is going to be increasing its production of its non-alcoholic beer! Hopefully that means the price will come down a bit.
