The Biggest Lie of 75,000

“I will stop the war in one day.” How many times did he say it? How many times was it repeated by his followers, his minions? “Only Trump can stop the war.”

So, what’s my problem? Why get hung up on this specific lie? So many others:

I’ll reduce grocery prices.

And gas prices.

Mexico will pay for the wall.

Ukraine started the war.

I won the 2020 election.

On and on. The list is endless.

Trump is the “dealmaker.” The king-negotiator. No one can squeeze more blood from a turnip. Trump’s ground-breaking deal: Putin gets to keep all the land he stole.

That’s it? That’s what Trump boasted about? That’s his plan to stop the war? Any asshole could have come up with that. But only one did. Breaking news: Trump says Putin doesn’t seem to want peace! And why would he? If he gets to keep what he’s grabbed, why not keep grabbing?

Note: My mother-in-law and her parents emigrated from Ukraine to America at the end of WWII along with about 400,000 other ‘displaced’ Europeans.

  1. It’s a malevolent madness this [insert curse word of preference] possesses, consumed, regurgitated and amplified by a mass-psychosis among his base. His lying is breath-taking in its scope and recklessness, and people have died–and will continue to die–because of him. How long can this last, Jeff? Something’s gotta give at some point.

  2. People who choose to believe that lies are ‘true’ seem to be incredibly resistant to admitting that they have been fooled by a charlatan and, long after the lies become countless, continue to fool themselves.
But is it possible that Trump himself might conclude that Putin is an equal if not better liar? 🤞

  3. I don’t think anyone is surprised by Trump’s lie about Ukraine. I do wonder how he’ll feel when he finds out Putin doesn’t *really* consider him an equal.

I’m waiting for the fallout when the Trump/Elmo bromance finally ends. Will it go Jerry Springer?😂

    • Not sure if Trump is lost in fandom of Putin or if something darker, more manipulative is going on. There used to be a lot of rumors about Putin having ‘the dirt’ on Trump. Have those rumors gone away because they’re untrue or we’re all just becoming bored with the subject? Jerry Springer is the exact media outlet where Trump belongs.

  4. Ditto to all you said, Jeff. I share your disgust and try to do what I can… directly supporting drone operators in Kursk as well as donating to humanitarian orgs working there: World Central Kitchen, UNICEF, Human Rights First, Reporter without Borders, and Doctors without Borders.

PS. All my ancestors hail from from present day Uzhorod in the far West, which at the time of their emigration to the USA was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire before becoming Czechoslovakia after WW1 and then Ukraine as part of the Soviet Union after WW2. I tried and failed to find family there over 20 years ago.

  5. It’s sad. I find myself sad a lot these days. He’s tapped into a paranoia that’s always been there as well as the hero worship as a culture we have for robber barons and outlaws.

    • I agree. The mood feels very much like it did during covid. I Have a real sense of hopelessness and a tendency to want to trench-in and ignore the rest of the world. Really feeling stuck. I haven’t participated in any protests because I don’t think they’ll do any good. The 2020s seem to be a global reset.
